A seal must retain lubricant while limiting contaminant entry. The best arrangement depends on the operating environment and the housing size, not only on the shaft diameter.
Felt and V-ring arrangements
These are established choices for suitable general industrial conditions. Their availability and suitability depend on housing size, speed and the surrounding environment.
Lip seals
Double-lip arrangements can provide more direct shaft contact where the application permits it. Shaft surface condition and operating speed need review.
Labyrinth and severe-duty arrangements
Labyrinth and taconite-type configurations are considered where dust, heavy contamination or demanding service requires enhanced protection.
End covers
A shaft-end installation may use an end cover on one side. Confirm which side is closed and whether the bearing position is locating or non-locating.
Seal availability varies by housing series and size. Provide speed, temperature, lubricant and environmental details so the final selection can be confirmed during quotation.
